■ATHERTON Collieries suffered their first defeat in three games as Runcorn Linnets claimed a victory at the Dreams2Reality Stadium.
Goals from Jack Grundy and Taylor Bowen were enough for the visitors, despite a late strike from Alex Doyle that tested the Linnets’ nerves.
The Linnets started brightly, with a floated free-kick from Luke Wall deceiving the Colls backline and finding Grundy, who powered his header past Ellis Litherland.
Bowen added a second just before half time, converting another Wall free-kick.
