■ LEIGHTON TOWN retained their five-point lead at the top of the table, but Stotfold made them work very hard for their narrow victory.
In the opening half-hour both teams created openings, but none came to fruition, though Leighton’s Godlove Oppong had a goal ruled out because the ball went out before reaching him.
There was no such problem in the 32nd minute when Kyal Williams and Oppong combined to set up Leo Farruch, who made it 1-0.
Moments later, Lewis Thorpe conceded a penalty, but Daniel Hosier produced a brilliant save.
