The Tangerines came into the contest in fine fettle and on a three-game unbeaten run.
But Marlow were ahead on 14 minutes when Kameron English stroked home a com posed finish.
The hosts managed to restrict in-form Marlow to half-chances in an otherwise cagey first half.
The contest sprung into life on the hour mark when Ashford had the ball in the net from a corner, but it was chalked off after a foul on keeper Simon Grant.
