In a tightly contested first half between two in-form sides, clear chances were always at a premium.

The first real opportunity arrived in the 25th minute when Noel Leighton rose to meet a cross, but his looping header drifted wide.
Just two minutes later, Reece Hallard should have opened the scoring, stretching to meet a low ball but steering his effort past the post with the goal at his mercy.
The match shifted dramatically on 43 minutes when Margate goalkeeper Thomas Wray was sent off.
