FC Halifax Town still targeting Football League despite relegation

are still targeting a return to the League despite their heartbreaking relegation from the on Saturday.

The Shaymen's 1-1 home draw with Macclesfield wasn't enough to secure survival after and both won on the final day.

Despite Saturday's disappointment, Jim Harvey's side still have a trip to to look forward to as they face Grimsby Town in the final on Sunday, May 22.

And even though they'll be playing Step 2 football next term, the club are still aiming high and are ultimately targeting for the Football League, which they were relegated out of in 2002 before the Shaymen were reformed six years later.

A club statement read: “Saturday, April 30 has come and gone, our hope for a positive result in the last game of the 2015-16 campaign ultimately wasn't to be. We must however remember we still have a historic trip to Wembley to look forward to, 105 years in the making.

“We're all hurting at the moment as no-one wants relegation, particularly in a game where nearly three thousand attended, the majority to cheer on the Shaymen. The board and everyone directly involved with the club would really like to thank all the fans for your continued loyalty and support.

“Throughout the summer we'll continue to build on our solid foundations. Our objective remains returning to the Football League and as a club we'll be continuing to establish ourselves for success.

“Returning to the National League is our immediate ambition. The National North is no walk in the park, however with the right recipe, we believe our ambition can be achieved. There will be some very attractive fixtures in the forthcoming season and new venues to visit.”
