Alfreton Assistant Russ O’Neill: We’re A Threat Now

'S hopes of an unlikely promotion have taken a blow after left-back Lathaniel Rowe-Turner was recalled from his loan by parent club Luton.

The Reds are still third in the Skrill Premier after Saturday's goalless draw at and the club's lofty position may have been the reason for the Hatters' decision, says assistant manager Russ O'Neill

“We've had this with a few of the top clubs now,” he said. “They've helped us out in the past but, whether we are or not, they seem to be starting to see us as a threat now.

“I suppose we should take it as a compliment but it doesn't help us.”

Rowe-Turner joined the Reds at the start of September initially until January 2 but that was extended. However, his five month spell is now over with Alfreton set to use Connor Franklin as his replacement.

“We would have liked to have extended the loan – and I think the lad would have liked to stay as well – but it was out of our hands in the end,” O'Neill added.

“So it's a bit of a blow that Luton have called him back, especially as it doesn't look like he in their future plans.

“We've got Connor Franklin as a ready-made replacement and he's always done well for us. So we've got no qualms about bringing him in.”
