GARY BRABIN has returned to Southport as the Conference club’s new manager after the departure of Martin Foyle on Sunday.

Ex-York City and Hereford United boss Foyle parted company with the Sandgrounders following their 5-2 home defeat to Woking on Saturday which left them in the bottom four.

Foyle, whose assistant Andy Porter has also left the club, took over in the summer following the departure of John Coleman after he led Southport to safety.

Brabin, 43, returns to Haig Avenue having played for the club in 2006 and managed them two years later. His last job in management was with Luton Town in 2012.

Former Cambridge United chief Brabin said: “I’m delighted to be back here and am very impressed with the training facilities at Edge Hill.

“I know all the people here at the club, especially chairman Charlie Clapham, and am looking forward to meeting the supporters again.”

A Southport statement added: “The club would like to thank Martin and Andy for their efforts, but on this occasion it has not worked out and we both have to move on.”
