CHARLIE GOODE has been rewarded with a move into the Football League with Scunthorpe United after his excellent season at Hendon.

The Greens narrowly missed out on the Ryman Premier title before losing in the play-off final to Margate.

Goode was called up to the England C squad for their friendly against Republic of Ireland U21s last week and came on as a substitute as the Three Lions won 2-1.

The 19-year-old defender has signed a two-year deal with League One Scunthorpe and said: “I’m very excited. Coming from Non-League is a big jump, but I’m delighted to have joined and it’ll be a good experience and hopefully this move will take me a long way.

“I was at AFC Hayes two years ago and joined Hendon, with a couple of other offers at the time. I chose Hendon and Gary McCann gave me good football down there.

“I’ve near enough played every game since I went there and we just missed out on promotion in the play-off final last season. It’s brought me here now, so it’s been a really good season for me.”

Hendon boss Gary McCann added: “The minute Charlie walked through the door you could see he was destined for bigger things.

“He’s been an absolute credit to himself. His performances have belied his age, and I am not surprised that a League One club has signed him on a two year deal.”
