Witton Albion

FORMER Norton United boss Scott Dundas has been sacked by Witton Albion just ten league games into his tenure at Wincham Park.

Dundas and his assistant Wayne Brotherton were relieved of their duties after Tuesday night’s 4-2 home defeat to Bamber Bridge which left them 11th.

The club have lost five of their opening ten Evo-Stik NPL Division One North fixtures following relegation from Step 3 and the appointment of Dundas in May.

Albion have cited poor performances and dwindling attendances – the 209 crowd at last Tuesday’s win against Brighouse was the lowest for over five years – for the decision.

A Witton statement read: “We would like to thank Scott and Wayne for their efforts on the club’s behalf.

“Whilst it is acknowledged that it takes time for a new team to settle, the board believe that performances, if not results, should have been much better with a top four playing budget.

“Attendances have fallen by half since the opening day of the season and it was felt that a change at this point was required.”

Head of recruitment Paul Ogden, a former manager at Northwich Victoria, Leek Town and Witton, will take temporary charge on Saturday for the visit of Ossett Albion in the FA Trophy preliminary round.
