FORMER Derby County defender Charlie Palmer has been chosen as the man to replace Jimmy Albans at Belper Town.

Palmer, 53, left his role as manager of Midland League Premier side Long Eaton United to take the reins at Step 4 Belper.

He has also served as assistant manager at Hinckley United and Mickleover Sports after a long playing career that started at Watford.

The defender also played for Derby, Hull City and Notts County and will be assisted at the Nailers by Lee Barrow.

Belper are currently 19th in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South after relegation from Step 3 last season.

A Long Eaton statement read: “We would like to place on record our thanks to Charlie for his efforts whilst at Long Eaton United and wish him well for the future.

“We are delighted to advise that Shaun Rickford has agreed to take interim responsibility for the team. We will be making a further announcement regarding our long term plans in due course.”
