MARCUS EBDON has stepped up to become the permanent manager of Evo-Stik NPL Division One South side Spalding United.

Ebdon had been serving as caretaker boss and has impressed the Tulips’ hierarchy enough to be given the job. He had served as assistant manager to previous boss Pat Rayment who quit two weeks ago.

A vastly experienced former professional with Everton, Peterborough United, Chesterfield and Leyton Orient, Ebdon also had a spell as manager at Alfreton Town.

He will be assisted by Danny Hussey who worked alongside him as caretaker manager and helped the club to convincing league victories against Newcastle Town and Leek Town.

Ebdon said: “I look forward to the challenge of taking the club forward with Danny as my assistant. From our short time as caretaker managers we have made a good start with the team playing some good football as was shown at Leek Town on Saturday.”

Chairman Andy Gay added: ”From the outset we wanted to appoint from within the club and Marcus and Danny were the obvious choices. We all look forward to working together as a complete team.”
