VETERAN striker Lee Morris has left his role as player-assistant manager at high-flying Shaw Lane Aquaforce to become boss at relegation-threatened Goole AFC.

The 33-year-old decided to step down as Craig Elliott’s number two at Shaw Lane to succeed Alan Semley at Goole on Wednesday night.

Semley left the Vikings, currently just a point clear of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South relegation zone, after Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with bottom club Tividale.

Forward Morris has enjoyed a fruitful Non-League career, scoring goals for the likes of Hallam, Buxton, Droyslden, Frickley Athletic, Hucknall Town, Harrogate Town, North Ferriby and Stalybridge Celtic.

He joined Shaw Lane two years ago and as well as assisting boss Elliott, he helped fire the club to promotion from the Northern Counties East League, becoming the Ducks’ all-time top scorer.

A Goole statement read: “Goole AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Lee Morris as our new first team manager. Lee has had a fantastic playing career, predominantly in the Northern Premier League and more recently as assistant manager at Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

“His enthusiasm and determination shone through at his interview and his knowledge of the game at this level is superb. Having spoken to people who have managed Lee as a player, it left us in no doubt that he has all the credentials needed to succeed.

“His first remit of course will be to help us retain our league status and assemble a squad to progress next year. Lee will also work closely with our development squad and U18s managers in developing the club as a whole.”

Shaw Lane Aquaforce added: “Everyone from Shaw Lane would like to thank Lee for his commitment to the club and becoming our all-time top goalscorer, guiding us to the Evo-Stik NPL.”
