ANDY KIWOMYA has stepped down as manager of Evo-Stik NPL Division One South side Sheffield FC but will remain at the club as the head of youth development.

Kiwomya decided to relinquish his role as first team boss after a meeting on Monday morning and has been replaced by foundation director Chris Dolby until a successor is named.

Former Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday player Kiwomya took the reins at Sheffield last May but the club have had an inconsistent season and currently sit 18th in the league.

Dolby, who has already spent two-and-a-half years with the club, will take charge of Tuesday night’s trip to Belper Town and said: “Andy is a close friend of mine, and it is an unwritten rule in the world of football that you have the blessing of that friend before stepping into their role, and happily Andy has given me that consent otherwise I wouldn’t have taken the position.

“You have to remember that Andy has only stepped down from first team duties, and he is still a very important part of this football club going forward, so it isn’t as though he’s going very far anyway.

“I’m hoping that this role is very temporary, I know the club are very close to making a decision on the new first team manager’s position, and the candidates are of a very good calibre.”
