BRAINTREE TOWN boss Danny Cowley reckons the Iron have performed a “football miracle” in the National League so far this season.

Cowley has continued the club’s recent trend of success in Non-League’s top division after leaving Concord Rangers to replace Alan Devonshire in the summer.

They may have lost 2-0 at home to struggling Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, but the Iron are still in a promising position, sitting seventh and just two points adrift of the play-offs.

The Essex side also have games in hand over their National League rivals and boss Cowley said: “You have to remember we’re Braintree Town. Look at the clubs around us, the infrastructure, the size, the fact that they’re full-time.

“I see what the boys have done thus far as being a football miracle. We’ve got ourselves in a great position and given ourselves a foundation and we’ll work very hard and see where it takes us.

“But I don’t see the play-offs as being a reality, not for this football club. That’s not to say we won’t be trying very hard to be in and around it, but I always think there has to be a touch of realism.”
