FRICKLEY ATHLETIC boss Karl Rose has backed Tyler Williams to follow in the footsteps of Reece Thompson and Simon Lenighan by bursting into the Football League after the youngster signed a new deal with the club.

The 20-year-old winger joined Frickley in the summer from Leek Town and he has enjoyed a successful season, netting four times in 35 games.

The youngster has signed a new deal with Frickley that keeps him at the club until the end of next season and his boss is backing him to emulate some of their former success stories.

Striker Thompson left Frickley to sign for League Two side York City in August following 16 goals last term and Lenighan went on to join Championship outfit Rotherham United after starring for the Blues.

Rose’s men are tenth in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier heading into Saturday’s trip to in-form Stourbridge and the boss is delighted Williams has committed to the club.

Boss Karl Rose said: “Williams is another young player who has improved during his time at the club. He has been a constant threat for us this season and I’m delighted that we have been able to convince him that his immediate future lies with us.

“Following on from the success of developing Reece Thompson and Simon Lenighan which enabled them to achieve contracts at Football League clubs, we believe that with hard work and the same type of continuous improvement made from the start of the season that Tyler could have similar opportunities of playing professional football.”

Chairman Gareth Dando added: “It’s fantastic that Tyler has committed himself to us not only for the rest of this season but for next season too.

“Karl Rose has put together a decent squad of players this season and it’s great to get a player of Tyler’s quality secured as we look to build on this season.”
