STRUGGLING Daventry Town have resigned from the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South and requested demotion to Step 6 for next season.

Manager Darran Foster quit Town on Sunday and the club were then unable to field a team for the Easter Monday game at Rugby Town.

Foster, who saw his budget cut, had been working under a transfer embargo and stepped down alongside his brother Nigel, who served as club secretary, and assistant manager Neil Champelovier.

He described the recent goings on at the club as “criminal” and added that the “downfall was completely out of our hands”.

With questions being raised about the club’s future, the NPL confirmed on Wednesday that the Northamptonshire outfit had resigned from the league although they claim they will complete their remaining fixtures.

An NPL statement read: “The league can confirm that a letter of resignation has been received from Daventry Town FC and has been accepted by the board of directors.

“The club have requested to be placed at Step 6 of the National League System, by the Football Association effective from the end of the current season 2015-2016.

“In accordance with the regulations, Daventry Town FC will assume the bottom relegation positon of the Evo-Stik First Division South at the end of the current season.”
