GOOLE AFC have moved to reassure fans that it will be “business as usual” after chairman Steve Shorthouse resigned from the Evo-Stik NPL South club.

Shorthouse took charge of the Vikings in January 2015 and worked alongside co-director Craig Whincup to increase sponsorship and eradicate historic debt.

However, he has now decided to walk away from the Victoria Pleasure Grounds to concentrate on his family and business interests.

Goole finished the season in 19th place in the Evo-Stik NPL South and were five points clear of the relegation places.

A club statement read: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Steve for his guidance and contribution over his tenure and we would all like to wish Steve and his family all the very best for the future.

“We all hope to see Steve back at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds supporting the club from the terraces at some point in the future and maybe also for a pint of Guinness in the bar.”

They added: “Goole AFC officials would like to reassure our fantastic supporters and sponsors that it is business as usual at the club.

“With your continued support and the support of the newly formed supporters’ co-operative, every effort will be made to ensure the club is well placed to continue operating in the Evo-Stik League in the 2016-17 season.”

Meanwhile, £4,100 was raised on the JustGiving website for goalkeeper Jack Wheat who suffered career ending injuries after a collision in his Goole debut against Market Drayton Town in March.
