NORTH LEIGH have moved quickly to appoint John Brough as their new manager following his departure from Cinderford Town last week.

He wasn’t out of the game for long, however, being unveiled as North Leigh’s new boss on Monday evening.

Brough replaces the long serving Mark Gee who stepped down last week alongside assistant Terry Merriman following 18 successful years at the club, citing increased work commitments as the reason behind the decision.

Gee led the club to three Hellenic League Premier titles, two Oxfordshire Senior Cups and promotion to the Southern League in 2008.

Since their climb to the Southern South & West, the Millers have finished in the top ten every season and Brough will be hoping to continue that trend.

North Leigh chairman Peter King said: “Mark, who is probably one of the longest serving managers at this level with one club, has over 18 years service to his name and together with Terry has been a firm favourite with the players, supporters and club committee during his time with the club.

“Since that promotion eight seasons ago, the club has achieved a top ten finish every season, a remarkable level of consistency.

“In doing so he has brought together a rich mixture of highly experienced players who have played at a higher Non-League level together with younger players developed from the club’s youth team policy.”

A North Leigh statement added: “The club is delighted to announce that John Brough has been offered and accepted the position of first team manager.

“John has extensive experience and until recently held a similar role at Cinderford Town who won the Southern League Division One South & West last season.”
