RAMSBOTTOM UNITED believe they have made a signal of their intent with the addition of former Football League striker Gareth Seddon.

The 36-year-old joins from Salford City after two successful seasons with the Ammies in which they enjoyed two promotions as well as plenty of coverage on national TV.

He scored 24 goals in 2014-15 to help Salford to the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North title but last season saw the forward struggle with injuries.

Despite missing considerable time, Seddon did return towards the end of the campaign and netted a key goal in the play-off semi-final victory over Ashton United as Salford won promotion to the National League North.

He has now dropped back down to Step 4 with local club Ramsbottom, who were relegated from the Evo-Stik NPL Premier last term.

Seddon started his career at Bury before dropping into Non-League, enjoying successful spells with the likes of Hyde United, Kettering Town, Fleetwood Town, FC Halifax Town and Chester before his move to Salford.

The veteran striker said: “I always thought I’d play for Ramsbottom United at some point with living locally and having business interests in the town. It’ll mean I can now jog to matches instead of driving!”

Joint-manager Mark Fell told the club’s website: “We are delighted to welcome Gareth as our first signing. Not only are we getting a top quality centre forward, but an excellent man who will help develop younger players and support us in achieving our goals for the season.

“We want to base a side around strong local players and with Gareth living just a few hundred yards from the HWRS, it’s a perfect match. Signing Gareth is a signal of the sort of pedigree we are looking for when building our new side.”
