FORMER Prescot Cables boss Dave Powell has been confirmed as the new manager of Evo-Stik NPL Division One North club Burscough.

The Linnets finished fifth in the league last season before losing to Spennymoor Town in the play-off semi-finals but were left searching for a new boss after Mark Beesley left at the start of July.

As well as previously managing Prescot Cables, Powell has also served as assistant at Radcliffe Borough, Ashton United and Warrington Town.

He will be supported at Victoria Park by the recently appointed director of football David Sutton. Sutton adds considerable experience and knowledge to the management team following a long playing career.

On Powell’s appointment, chairman Mike Swift told Burscough’s website: “We wish David’s predecessor Mark well in his new ventures and thank him for a successful campaign.

“Now we look forward to the new season’s challenges with a manager bringing to Burscough FC contemporary expertise, accredited coaching skills especially for player development and an open door for new faces to arrive contributing to the football we expect at this exciting time in the club’s development.”
