With the 25th season of the Premier League scheduled to begin on 13 August, fans of the Non-League Football Paper are already getting excited about the upcoming action in their own leagues. As we all know, football is such a powerful sport on a social level, having the ability to unite and divide people like no other game known to man. There are so many ways to have fun while watching and discussing the national sport so we often get lost in it, and the term “football-related absenteeism” has even been quoted to explain the number of work days that are missed each year in the UK by people who skip work to watch football. While we’re not suggesting you quit your jobs and divorce your spouses to watch football full-time, check out the following things you can do to have more fun this football season:

1. Have a Summer Barbie

A summer barbie and a competitive football match is like a match made in heaven. Delicious food alongside a good game and plenty of company, who could ask for a better time? To spice up the festivities try playing BBQ slots – you get to have whatever food item your spin lands on. It’s fun to tease guests with this game, as if only select winners are going to get a steak, and then surprise them all with full plates. There are also similar slot games that use desert items instead, so be sure to save room for cake.

2. Find Discount Tickets

No matter how awesome your summer barbie and football watching party is, it simply can’t compete with the experience of actually attending a live match. Fortunately, it’s almost always possible to find discount tickets, even if you have to settle for a less appealing match to get in on the action. If you’d rather save your money and spend a lot on one popular matchup instead, don’t be upset if you can’t find tickets to that particular event in advance, as you can often obtain last minute deals locally from people who’ve changed their plans.

3. Bet on It

While gambling is often vilified by those who highlight the possibility of addiction, it is a legal and legitimate way to raise the stakes a bit and make sports watching much more emotional and action-packed. Although responsible betting is encouraged, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of sports betting here and there, and it can actually be loads of fun when done in moderation, especially when you win!

Remember to Record

Finally, remember to record all of the memorable games that you play during parties or barbies throughout the summer. This will give you some material to look back on when reminiscing years down the road. There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about being able to play back a monumental game that you witnessed live. Keep a collection of recorded matches and you’ll have no shortage of such flashbacks on demand.
