COALVILLE TOWN are breathing a sigh of relief after midfielder Alex Troke was released from hospital within hours following a nasty looking neck injury at Skelmersdale United.

Thankfully it wasn’t as serious as fans feared after the Evo-Stik NPL Premier game was halted for nearly an hour at 9.30pm last Tuesday night.

The Ravens player of the year eventually left the ground in an ambulance after receiving treatment on the pitch for over 50 minutes.

It was a long wait for all involved – he needed care with just a minute of the match remaining. The game was finely poised, Coalville led 2-1 but the 23-year-old’s injury meant a big delay in getting the final seconds of the game concluded.

There was a double dose of good news for the away side. When play finally resumed, they held out for the little time that was left to collect a vital three points.

And by the time the players got home and into their beds, they didn’t need to worry about Troke any longer – he was released from Liverpool’s Fazakerley Hospital within three hours of arriving.

Coalville released a statement thanking all involved.

“We’re unsure when the former Eastwood Town player will be able to play again as the club awaits doctor’s advice,” they said.

“Following the injury suffered by Alex at the end of the match at Skelmersdale, we are pleased to report that he was discharged from hospital in the early hours of the morning and is now recovering at home.

“There was some concern regarding his condition following an assessment by the paramedics at the ground but a scan at the hospital gave him the all-clear.

“We would like to thank the assistance given by the Skelmersdale medical staff and also thanks their directors, players and supporters for the concern shown.

“We would also like to add our thanks to the other clubs, supporters and league officials from the Northern Premier League and the wider football world for the messages they have sent.”
