Hayes & Yeading United search again for a new boss after Mickey Lewis’ exit

HAYES & YEADING UNITED are searching for their fourth manager in just over 18 months after the departure of Mickey Lewis.

The former Oxford United caretaker manager took charge of Hayes in May, replacing Garry Haylock after the club’s relegation from the National League South was confirmed.

United’s return to Step 3 football has been tough and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Redditch left the club 19th in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier.

It was agreed after the game that Lewis would step down as first team boss although he will remain at the club and continue his work with the academy side.

Director of football Tristan Lewis, who has been manager of the club twice himself, has been put in temporary charge while the U’s search for a new permanent boss.

A Hayes statement read: “After discussions with manager Mickey Lewis over the weekend, it has been mutually agreed that Mickey will step down as first team manager of Hayes & Yeading United with immediate effect.

“Mickey will however continue to work with the development of the next round of young talent through the academy system.

“Director of football Tristan Lewis will take the reins for the forthcoming games on a caretaker basis, and the search for a new manager has already started, with a view to them taking over as soon as possible to guide the club up the Southern League Premier table.”
