Prestatyn Town supporters continue to fund-raise as club battles winding-up petition

PRESTATYN TOWN supporters are desperately trying to rise cash to help save their club after it was hit with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs.

The Seasiders, currently top of the Cymru Alliance, were told they would have to pay their £53,000 tax debt by November 28 to secure their future.

Failure to raise the total could lead to the club being wound-up but Town have already started rallying around to try and find the cash.

The HMRC shortfall comes from claims that the club’s player expenses were not registered in the correct format from 2012 to 2014.

In the summer of 2014, a new board took control of Prestatyn, that was £120,000 in the red, and in two-and-a-half years have transformed it into a club that was set to break even at the end of the season.

However, they have been rocked by HMRC’s demands, and with no payment plan available to them, they need to find £53,132.93 to stave off the threat of closure.

Supporter Robert Caton set up a Justgiving page to ‘SaveOurSeasiders‘ with £3,000 currently raised of a £5,000 target.

A Prestatyn board statemtne read: “We have contacted the HMRC to see if an agreement could be reached but they have refused and closed the door on any negotiations, leaving us with no alternative than to find the full £53,132.93 by 28 November 2016.

“The club would like to stress that we will be doing everything possible to make sure that we raise this sum, some of which has already been pledged.

“We would welcome financial assistance from any individuals or companies to raise this money so that we can pay off the HMRC, continue our good run of form and gain promotion to the Premier League.”
