At 21, Rob Evans has been appointed as Wrexham Football Club’s new captain as the previous captain, Sean Newton, is moving to York City on loan. Prior to becoming the captain, Evans, a professional Welsh footballer, was playing as a midfielder for Wrexham.

Rob Evans is a resident of Wrexham itself, being born in the village of Penycae, situated at the south of Wrexham. Being a local boy, Evans, started his football career as a substitute player for Wrexham in 2011. He earned his position in the team after the 2011 Welsh Cup, when he played against Airbus, becoming the second youngest player in the club’s history. At the age of 18, Evans led the team against Gresley as the team magnificently won the match 2-1 in the FA Trophy. He created an image of himself as the young player who can keep up to more experienced opponents.

Evans made 99 appearances since he played at Newport County in 2012. He also played for Wales at U19 level, but still remained loyal to Wrexham. The following year in March, he signed a professional deal with the team, becoming officially a Wrexham player. His first competitive goal was against Barnet in September 2014. Rob Evans consecutively won the young player of the year award, in 2015 and 2016. For these years, he made 44 appearances.

Despite having led the team before, Evans has finally gained the official title of captain of the Red Dragons a few days ago. Evans stated that he is “honoured and privileged to be named captain for Wrexham AFC”. Evans is set to play his next match as captain on the 19th of November against Torquay United.
