Ex-Wales international Andy Legg departs Bangor City after three months in charge

FORMER Wales international Andy Legg has departed Bangor City after just three months in charge.

Legg was appointed at the start of August after Neville Powell was sacked following nine years with the Citizens.

Bangor had just been taken over by a Chester-based consortium and they opted to go with ex-Hucknall Town and Llanelli boss Legg.

The 50-year-old had led the club to fourth in the Welsh Premier but Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Cardiff Met proved to be his final game in charge.

In a statement, the club claimed Legg had left Nantporth as he was unable to commit to a full-time contract with City aiming to turn full-time next season.

A Bangor statement read: “Andy Legg was offered a full-time contract following the departure of Neville Powell. At the time, due to Andy’s logistics, personal circumstances and broadcasting commitments, Andy requested to work with no contract until Christmas 2016 with a view to review his position then.

“The football club has monitored these factors closely since then and unfortunately does not feel there has been a change in the circumstances.

“We have therefore decided that for us to achieve our goals for this season and next, we need to have in place a manager who can work immediately on a full-time basis to secure European football and lead us into next season where it is our ambition to be full-time.

“The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Andy Legg for his services and we wish him the very best of luck in the future.”

Legg said: “Good luck to Bangor City and their fans for the rest of the season. Thank you for the warm welcome I received from you, all the best.”
