GOOLE AFC will be holding a bucket collection on Saturday to raise money for young striker Josh Lamming after he suffered a severely fractured skull.

Lamming, who plays for the Vikings’ U21 side, scored four times for Humber Premier League side Goole United in their 7-0 thrashing of Hanson Jewellers last Saturday, just hours before he sustained the serious injury.

It’s unclear how Lamming picked up the injury on Saturday night but he was rushed to hospital and had a successful operation on Thursday.

Goole say they will support their young forward as he battles back to full fitness and have planned a bucket collection for Saturday’s Evo-Stik NPL North game against Prescot Cables at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.

The Vikings hope the proceeds will help Lamming as he faces a long-term lay-off from work following his severe injury.

Goole U21s boss Marc Brown told the club’s website: “Josh has been in and out of the junior team at Goole AFC for the past few years but came back to play for the U21s this summer. He has been fantastic on the pitch for us this season and off the pitch he has matured a lot and has been a massive help to myself.

“He is also a popular member in the changing room and it was certainly quieter on Tuesday night! On behalf of myself and all the lads in the U21s we wish Josh all the best in his recovery and he knows we are there for any support he needs along the way, and we hope to see him at the VPG in the near future. Get well soon Josh.

“Despite being in hospital recovering, he was still texting Tuesday night asking about the score and congratulated the lads after the result, which shows his character.”
