Gainsborough manager Dave Frecklington has urged his side to build on their weekend win against Nuneaton Town as the National League North season starts to gather pace.

After an opening day defeat to Leamington and a thrilling 4-3 loss to Darlington, Trinity posted their first points on the board after a hard-fought win away to Nuneaton on Saturday.

It was a deserved victory, but one they had to really battle for, and as they prepare to take on Blyth Spartans tonight, Frecklington wants this players to put in the same effort and build some momentum.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the boss said: “I have been very critical of the defence is some of the matches.

“We know that we will create chances during matches and so if we can keep clean sheets then it means we know we will get the points.”

The win at Nuneaton signalled Gainsborough’s first clean sheet of the season, which especially pleased Frecklington after the manner in which his side tasted defeat against Darlo.

“We are probably feeling a little bit aggrieved that we don’t have as many points on the board as we do right now, we have played some good football and showed spirit – especially being 3-0 down against Darlington and getting it back to 3-3.

“We should have gone on from that.”
