Guernsey FC record goalscorer Ross Allen leaving for New Zealand

Guernsey FC's record goalscorer Ross Allen is leaving the Bostik South club to live and work in New Zealand.
The 30-year-old, who has scored a staggering 239 goals in 226 appearances for the Green Lions since 2011, is heading to the other side of the world this weekend, meaning he is unlikely to feature against VCD Athletic on Saturday.
Allen's last appearance at Footes Lane was a memorable one, as he scored a hat-trick in Guernsey's win over Shoreham, but the club and player have stopped stopped short of ruling out future appearances.
The prolific striker, who spent part of last season travelling, told ITV Sport: “I feel that travelling woke me up to a few things and it was time to make a decision.
“The plan is to find some work over there and get set up with a team, whilst exploring as much as I can. I love Guernsey FC but I have to do what's right for me.
“There have been some talented young players knocking at the door for a while so now is the time for them to step up and develop in my place. The squad is in a better position than when I went travelling last season.
“When I went travelling I knew it would just be for a few months, but this time I am moving to live and work so I can't say when, or even if, I'll be back as I just don't know how things will pan out at this stage, but I'd like to think my journey with GFC is not yet done.
“I want to thank everyone within the club for their support and understanding, and the fans for helping to make these past six-plus years so memorable.”
