Former Wigan Athletic manager Graham Barrow joins AFC Fylde

The highly experienced boss is back in football.

Experienced Graham Barrow has joined the coaching team at National League side AFC Fylde.
The former Wigan and Chester City boss has been appointed head of football development at the Coasters, who sit 17th.
Barrow, 63, played 248 times for Chester after signing from Wigan where he appeared on 179 occasions.
Barrow became Chester manager in 1992 and although he couldn’t save the club from relegation to the Third Division, he guided the club to promotion the following season.
He returned to Wigan as manager in 1994 and avoided the drop before taking over at Rochdale.
A spell as assistant manager at Notts County was followed by another return to Chester where they finished eighth in the Conference, reached the FA Cup third round and an FA Trophy semi-final.
However, he was sacked at the end of the season and wouldn’t return to management for two years until becoming assistant manager at Bury – and then manager.
Barrow was appointed first team coach at Wigan under new manager Roberto Martinez in 2009 and would go on to become caretaker manager on three occasions.
Upon joining Fylde, Barrow said: “Fylde have a firm ambition to reach the Football League and believe my experience and contacts will help them to realise that dream.
“I have worked with several top managers in the past, from Kevin Keegan and Kenny Jacket to Roberto Martinez and Uwe Rosler.
“I have known the management team here, Dave and Colin, for a long time and we have kept in touch over the years. I played alongside Colin with Chester and actually signed Dave whilst I was the manager of Bury.
“I’ve always kept an eye on Dave’s managerial career and I was even a reference on his CV when he got the job here so I like to think I played little a part!”
Manager Dave Challinor added: “Graham has extensive experience in the game and will be a valuable addition to the team.
“He was key as we prepared for the huge games against Wigan recently and I’m sure he will continue to be so.”
