The Spireites, who parted company with manager Jack Lester last month, have slipped out of the Football League for the first time since 1921.
It is Chesterfield’s second consecutive relegation after finishing bottom of League One last season, ending a 97-year stay in the EFL.
It has been revealed that just short of 30 applications have been received for the position of first-team manager, with the selection process due to be stepped up later this week.
Carson said: “We have received some extremely high quality applications for the role and we will select at least six to eight candidates to interview.
“The application list will be discussed with two trusted former Chesterfield players. A shortlist of three will then be presented to the owner of the club, Dave Allen.
“All directors will be involved in the interview process so that they can provide their input ahead of a decision being made.”
The deadline for applications is 5pm this Thursday.
