DAVID HOWELL has left his position as manager of St Albans City with the club sitting just one point off the Southern League Premier Division play-off places.

Howell’s exit comes after a run of just two wins in 12 games in all competitions.

He is the second high-profile departure from Clarence Park in the past week, following Ian Ridley’s decision to quit as chairman last Monday.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Due to the recent poor run of results the board feels it has no option but to look to a new direction.

“The board will meet to discuss its options but is committed to retaining and developing an attractive and successful playing squad.

“Interim chairman Nick Archer and board wish to express their thanks to David Howell and his management team for all their efforts over the last 18 months and to wish them well for the future.”
