Truro City won’t return to Treyew Road until next year

Truro City will not make a decision regarding their return to Treyew Road until the new year.
The National League South side have been groundsharing at Torquay United’s Plainmoor this season after they were kicked out of their ground by owners JIL to build a Lidl supermarket on the site.
But building work still hasn’t begun and developers Helical Retail have been unable to reach an agreement with JIL to begin phase one of construction.
The club have been told that Lidl have issued a termination notice to Helical cancelling their contract.
JIL now wish to take control of the Treyew Road project themselves and will be discussing matters direct with the club.
Contractually Helical, JIL and Truro City are bound together until September of next year on terms that the can continue to play football at Treyew Road until the end of this season.
JIL and Helical will be meeting together within the next few days to discuss the termination of their contract.
The repair work needed to Treyew Road following the ground inspection by the National League has now been completed and the club expects to get the ground grade B rating within the next few days.
However, a return to their home ground won’t happen until next year.
A club statement read: “Supporters and followers of Truro City will know that the team are currently enjoying a “purple patch” under current ground arrangements. Given our League position we do not want to take any action that may be detrimental to current form and as such we will not be taking any decision to return to Treyew Road until we play Torquay United at Plainmoor on New Year’s Day.
“We acknowledge that this will come as a disappointment for some supporters but hopefully it will be accepted this decision to remain during the interim period is the right one in our quest to remain in this League.”
