James Jepson has resigned as player-manager of Hinckley AFC due to an “irretrievable breakdown in trust with certain board members”.
Jepson’s shock departure comes just 24 hours before the club’s important FA Vase third round clash at Coventry United tomorrow.
The midfielder was appointed in the summer having previously worked at Rugby Town and has guided Hinckley to tenth in the Midland League Division One.
However, he has ended his reign in charge of the club claiming some board members have undermined him by trying to bring in a new manager.
A statement from Jepson read: “After an irretrievable breakdown in trust with certain Board members, who have been working surreptitiously towards bringing a former manager back to the club, I have today resigned as Manager of Hinckley AFC.
“Whilst I accept that the timing prior to a big FA Vase game is far from perfect – and for this I apologise whole heartedly to our brilliant fans – I feel my position has been made untenable by the actions of the said Board members.
“I would like to thank Hinckley for affording me the opportunity to manage the club and wish them every success for the future.”
