Maidenhead United earn crucial victory over relegation rivals Maidstone United

The Magpies have moved four points above the relegation zone

Maidenhead United

Maidenhead United moved four points clear of the National League relegation zone last night after a crucial win at struggling Maidstone United.
The Magpies ran out 4-2 winners at the Gallagher Stadium to give them some breathing space from the bottom four.
Alfie Kilgour struck first for the visitors after just ten minutes but Will De Havilland levelled just four minutes later.
Adrian Clifton put Alan Devonshire’s side back in front and then the Stones were reduced to ten men as Ollie Muldoon was shown a second yellow card.
Maidenhead capitalised on the man advantage before half-time when Sam Nombe struck to give his side a two-goal advantage.
Clifton made it 4-1 two minutes into the second half, but De Havilland bagged his second of the night to reduce the deficit before Maidenhead’s Stephen Obileye was shown a straight red card with 20 minutes left.
The result means Maidstone remain second bottom, four points adrift of safety, and last night’s performance has worried joint caretaker boss Simon Walton.
“I’ve tried to be positive but as a player I will not accept and as a caretaker manager I will not accept that,” he told Stones TV.
“We have been let down by people we trust. If people really look at themselves they’ll know they let themselves down. That is a performance that proves why we are where we are.
“There’s no reason for them to go into their shells. We’ve given them every platform to go and express themselves. People have let themselves down tonight.”
