Solihull Moors sign prolific Eastleigh striker Paul McCallum

The 25-year-old joins the club on a two-year deal

Solihull Moors have fought off major competition to land the signing of striker Paul McCallum.
The 25-year-old joins the club on a two-year deal after enjoying a prolific season with Eastleigh, who he scored 27 times for on their way to the play-off semi-finals, enough to finish as the joint top scorer in the division.
He began his career at Dulwich Hamlet where his goalscoring record earned him a move to West Ham United.
Despite failing to make a first-team appearance for the Hammers, the forward gained experience on loan at Rochdale, AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot, Torquay, Hearts and Portsmouth.
Following his release from West Ham, two years at Leyton Orient followed where McCallum scored 15 times in 43 appearances for the O’s.
Eight goals in his first season at Eastleigh was followed up by a memorable second season during which the Spitfires finished seventh and narrowly missed out a promotion final spot at Wembley, as they lost to Salford City on penalties.
McCallum becomes the Moors’ second summer signing following the arrival of Mitch Hancox and said: “I’m very excited to be joining a club with such big ambitions – it looks to be heading in a great direction.
“I was very impressed with the plans and believe that we can achieve big things. The key thing that made me sign was the ambition and desire for the club to get to the next level.
“My aim personally is to score more goals than I did last year and, in doing so, hopefully help the team achieve the main goal of getting promoted!”
Manager Tim Flowers added: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Paul to Solihull Moors. He is a player we have admired from afar for some time and to have secured his signature is a major coup for us.
“His presence, goal scoring and technical skills will be a huge asset for us as we look to build on last season. He joins a strong squad of players and I look forward to working with him.
“I would like to thank Mark Fogarty, Darryl Eales and the board for getting this deal over the line. Paul and Mitch (Hancox) signing indicate our intentions for the upcoming season.”
Sporting Director Mark Fogarty added: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to the club. He was always our number one target, but we knew we would face fierce competition for his signature.
“I would like to place on record the professionalism of all the staff on this signing. They all contributed and chipped in with detail – everyone was involved to bring Paul to the club, and this is the way it should be if the club is to reach its goals.
“The sort of signings can’t be done without the backing of the board who have supported the Manager and staff to bring it about. I’m sure that Paul will be a huge asset to the club.”
