Boston United have added experience to their back line ahead of the new National League North season by bringing in defender Simon Ainge from divisional rivals Darlington.
The 31-year-old brings a wealth of experience to York Street, having previously represented the likes of Guiseley, Bradford Park Avenue and Harrogate Town.
Ainge, traditionally a centre-half, was converted into a centre forward by Harrogate boss Simon Weaver at one stage, but has now reverted to his more accustomed defensive role.
The defender came through the youth ranks at Bradford City, where he went on to make 14 first team appearances, while enjoying loan spells with Halifax Town and Cambridge United, before he left Valley Parade in 2009.
Boston boss Craig Elliott told the club’s official website, “Aingey has vast experience in this league and is very much the aerial and physical presence in both boxes that we lacked last season.
“He has shown a lot of determination and hunger to make this deal happen and I am very much looking forward to working with him.”
Last season the Pilgrims finished in 11th position in the National League North, seven points adrift of the play-off positions after ending the campaign with an impressive 2-0 win at Hereford.
This is an exciting time for the Pilgrims as the club move ever closer to leaving their current York Street home with plans for a brand new stadium moving forward.
