Glen Driver has walked away from the hot-seat at National League South Braintree Town.
Former Leiston boss Driver told his followers on Twitter on Thursday morning that he’d stood down at Cressing Road with a “heavy heart”.
The Iron have released a brief statement confirming the departure of Driver and his number two Mark Kinsella with immediate effect.
According to reports on his departure in today’s Braintree & Witham Times, financial restrictions on his own ambitions to take the club forward in the next few years played a part in his decision.
Appointed in June as the successor to Danny Searle after he left for Aldershot, Driver’s last game at the helm proved to be a 3-0 reverse at the hands of rock-bottom Hungerford Town.
Driver posted: “It is with a heavy heart that I have today decided to resign from my position at manger of Braintree Town Football Club with immediate effect.
“I would like to thank [chairman] Mr Lee Harding for the opportunity he gave me to manage a club at step 2. I would also like to say thank you to the players for there (sic) support and efforts since the day I took over.
“I leave the club just two points outside the play-offs and with a squad that has proven it can compete at this level. I wish the club all the very best for the rest of the season.”

Currently ninth in the table after taking a single point from their last four outings, the managerless Iron head to fourth-placed Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday.
During his three years as Leiston boss, Driver led them to the Bostik Premier play-offs and the club’s highest-ever finish.
He also masterminded a first-ever Suffolk Premier Cup title in May 2018 when they beat Bury Town 3-0 in the final at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road.
As a player, Driver was a prolific forward at number of clubs including Witham Town, Halstead Town and Stanway Rovers.
