Struggling St Neots start hunt for new boss after Marc Abbott stands down

St Neots Town are looking for a new manager today after Marc Abbott stood down at the BetVictor Southern League strugglers.
Appointed in February following Matt Clements’ move into the boardroom as director of football, the former Haverhill Rovers boss quit Rowley Park with the Saints second bottom of the Southern League’s Division One Central.
According to a statement from the Cambridgeshire club on Wednesday night announcing his departure, Clements, along with Sean Greygoose and Matt Joseph, will take charge on Saturday when they host league leaders Corby Town.
Abbott, who was unable to save the Saints from relegation from the Southern League’s Premier Division Central last term, was thanked by the club for efforts.
The Saints said: “It is with great regret that we have accepted the resignation of Marc Abbott as first team manager with immediate effect.
“The club would like to go on record and thank Marc for the time, energy and effort he has put into the club and we wish him every success in the future.
“Director of football, Matt Clements, will oversee Saturday’s game versus Corby Town along with Sean Greygoose and Matt Joseph.
“A further statement will be released once we have more information regarding the first team managers position moving forward.”
Abbott also thanked the club’s fans and players in a post on Twitter retweeted by the Saints.
He said: “Thank you for the opportunity, I’ve learnt a large amount, meet some fantastic people, had our fans back the players around the country & I wish you all the best. An experience I have loved every minute.”

Abbott’s last match in charge on Tuesday night saw Saints crash out of the Hunts Senior Cup quarter-finals on penalties to Eynesbury Rovers following a 3-3 draw.
His departure was announced within 24 hours of James Bloomfield resigning as manager of his previous club, Eastern Counties League Premier Division Haverhill Rovers.
