Goading of refs is disrespectful

I READ with great interest Adam Virgo’s column (NLP, July 9) on respect to referees.
I have been involved in refereeing for over 40 years from grass roots to national level as both an official, mentor, coach, assessor and observer, claiming involvement in over 2,500 games.
‘To err is to be human’ – no referee or player is infallible, they all make mistakes. However, an official making an error is never forgotten. Like goalkeepers, their mistakes can mean the difference between winning or losing a game. But while a goalkeeper is forgiven, the referee never is.
