SAM MERSON’S late goal proved the winner for St Albans in an entertaining opening fixture at Marsh Lane
The hosts started the brighter and opened the scoring when a simple long ball from Joe Oastler was misjudged by Saints defender Tom Bender allowing Matt Paterson to control the ball before lobbing Dean Snedker.
As the half wore on, the visitors started to link well in the final third and levelled things up on the stroke of half-time.
Solomon Sambou won the ball in the centre circle and broke towards the area before playing in Shaun Luc...
