ST ALBANS CITY stalwart Dave Tavener launched an appeal earlier this year to fund a headstone for the unmarked grave of the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, Wilfred ‘Billy’ Minter. Little did he know how tough it would be to find the owner of the plot to obtain permission, as per the law.
Six months on, his persistence has paid off and now he wants to have the stone erected by November 22 – the 95th anniversary of Minter setting a record by scoring the highest number of goals in an FA Cup tie and still finishing on the losing side, when Saints went down 8-7 at Dul...
