MARINERS SAY NO TO HEED TALK

SOUTH Shields have quashed rumours that a possible merger was being considered with local rivals Gateshead.
The Mariners secured a third straight promotion from Evo-Stik North this season after claiming a quadruple of trophies – including the FA Vase – last seaso.
But they were quick to dismiss rumours of a possible merge with National League neighbours Gateshead.
A statement on the club’s website read: “There is no prospect of the club merging with Gateshead this summer, nor has this avenue been suggested or explored.
