RYAN Astles and Jason Gilchrist led the salvage operation as Southport recovered from a two-goal halftime deficit to draw.
Gilchrist, the leading goalscorer in last season’s National League North, came off the bench at half time to register his first of the campaign, earning the home team a deserved draw.
If one team was going to find a winner in the time that remained, it was Southport, whose charge was led by Dion Charles but he was unable to find a way past Luke Pilling.
