■ CITY of Liverpool edged their top-of-the-table encounter with Congleton Town 2-1 thanks to Craig Cairns’ 55th minute winner, extending their lead at the top to six points.
And title rivals Runcorn Town maintained their grip on third place despite having to settle for a 1-1 draw with mid-table Irlam.
The viewing of the day was probably to be found at Wincham Park as Northwich Victoria were edged out 3-2 by fourth-placed Bootle, despite the away side blowing a three-goal lead.
