JAKE PUTS AVENUE ON ROAD TO PLAY-OFFS

AVENUE went a long way to securing a topseven place with a hard-fought win. Jake Beesley won and then scored the decisive penalty on 57 minutes. After a quiet opening the play-off chasers came close to taking the lead on the half-hour mark when Conor Branson headed a cross wide of goal. Then Nuneaton had a succession of corners and a free-kick but the Avenue defence held firm. Lewis Knight had a chance for Bradford after a rapid break but Cam Belford in the visitors’ goal denied him the opener.
