GATESHEAD completed a notable double over one of the National League big guns to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Striker Steven Rigg’s first goal in nine games was enough to see off out of sorts form team Chesterfield.
The Spireites had a backing of over 600 at the International Stadium but gave them little to shout about.
A 28th-minute penalty, originally ruled out by referee Matt Diccico,was all that separated the two sides.
For Gateshead it was a first win in seven and they go to Harrogate on Monday with hope still in their heart.
