VERNON’S STRIKE HAS OWLS FLYING

A GOAL from top scorer Scott Vernon was enough to see Cleethorpes deservedly through to the next round of the FA Trophy and a home match against Mossley.
After a slow opening to the tie, a spell of pressure from the home side resulted in the only goal moments before the interval.
Excellent build-up play from Josh Batty teed up Vernon, who slotted home from 10 yards.
The Owls began the second half brightly and nine minutes in looked to have doubled their lead but Josh Batty’s effort was ruled out by the assistant’s flag.
