Sandgrounders hold their nerve on penalties

Southport won 5-4 on pens
SOUTHPORT battled their way through after surviving a Spennymoor Town onslaught to prevail 5-4 on penalties.
Glen Taylor fired the Moors ahead but the Sandgrounders were level six minutes later when Mo Ali fired a header in.
Spennymoor dominated the second half and saw Mark Anderson’s deflected strike put them back ahead, but a late error from Dale Eve allowed sub George Newell to tap home an equaliser and take the game to penalties.
