We’re all set up for the summer

I READ with interest Mike Gilbert’s letter suggesting a change to a season from March to December for lower leagues (NLP, January 24). This has some merit, but I believe has many drawbacks.
Firstly many players I’m sure play other sports in the summer and secondly, they have families to take on holiday. How many grounds share facilities during the year with cricket clubs?
Fans would be taking holidays themselves, so attendances would be reduced. Playing football in a heatwave is not pleasant, and the pitches may well be bone hard.
